Mimesis at the Movies
A laid-back gathering where we watch a film and then hang out with friends in a virtual living room to talk about it.
First Thursdays
7:30pm - 9:00pm (Eastern)
4:30pm Pacific | 5:30pm Mountain | 6:30pm Central
What you’ll experience
Feel free to hop into the Zoom room a little early to socialize with other attendees. At 7:30, we’ll open the event with a summary of the movie so that anyone who hasn’t seen it can still participate. One participant will be invited to moderate the discussion and/or call on people to share, and the conversation unfolds from there.
Laid-back and cozy, this is a chance to see a piece of art through another person’s eyes and reflect on what it says to us about how to be human.

Nope! All levels of familiarity with Girard’s work (including none) are welcome. All you need to know how to do is listen and respond respectfully. This isn’t a discussion about mimesis so much as a living example of how mimesis can make enthusiasm and critical thinking contagious.

No. You’re welcome to join and just listen along.
Meet Your Host
Andrew McRae is your go-to guide and tech support for Mimesis at the Movies events, but this is an egalitarian gathering — at the start of each event, Andrew invites one participant to moderate the discussion as they see fit. This makes room for many voices to be heard and a variety of community leadership styles to be modeled.
