Creative Interruption: Transformative Testimony in Violent Times was a one-day gathering hosted by Theology & Peace at the beginning of July.
Thirty-seven of us met in person to hear Wolfgang Palaver, Professor Emeritus of Catholic Social Thought at the University of Innsbruck, Austria, clarify how Sermon on the Mount doesn’t call for passivity or withdrawal, but for courageous, creative, and disciplined nonviolent action.
We also heard co-founders of Center for Story & Witness, R. Clifton Spargo and Anne K. Ream, outline the role that testimony can take in educating the public on social, political, and interpersonal violences. Then they led us in a writing exercise modeled on their workshops.
And it was all intended to encourage you who are building peace within and in spite of contentious surroundings. May we never cease to encourage one another in these efforts!
